Aerators, Hoses, Dripping Heads

How to inspect and clean aerators. Keep pull out faucet hoses from leaking. Why Designer faucets drip after being turned off.

Manufactures' suggestions for the care and cleaning of your faucets:

Price Pfister:
The best way to clean and care for handles and finishes is to use a soft damp cloth, which can be used to clean and shine the faucet. All Price Pfister faucets manufactured after 1997 have the Pforever Warranty®, which guarantees finish (with proper care) and function for life, so the brilliant luster and flawless performance of every faucet will never fade.
Regular use of a soft cloth rinsed in warm, soapy water will keep a finish looking clean and new. The use of polish, detergents, abrasive cleaners, organic solvents or acid to clean, shine, or polish such finishes will nullify the lifetime warranty.

Oil Rubbed Bronze: A true "living finish", Oil Rubbed Bronze will change over time to reveal highlights created by normal daily use. Natural oils on the hands will react with the black oxide topcoat, resulting in a warm blend of hues. Periodic maintenance is required of any "living finish".

Delta:
Your faucet's non-Brilliance finish is extremely durable, but it can be damaged by harsh abrasives. Use only nonabrasive cleaners. Harsh cleaners or abrasives can scratch some faucet finishes. We recommend you wash the faucet with a soft cloth and blot it dry with a clean, dry soft cloth. To remove hard water deposits and soap scum, use a 50/50 mix of vinegar or liquid Lysol® and water.

If your faucet has a Polished Brass, Polished Nickel, Brushed Nickel, Brushed Bronze or Stainless finish, you have a Brilliance® finish. Developed with a patented process using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD), Brilliance® molecules are embedded deep into the faucet's surface, creating a bond that is virtually indestructible. However, failure to give the proper care for the finish can cause damage and may void the warranty. After every use, it is always best to wipe dry with a soft cloth to prevent water spotting and mineral build-up. We recommend that you clean and wax regularly.

In general, most common household cleaners meet the criteria for cleaning any Brilliance® finish product. Avoid industrial cleaners and abrasive cleaners, such as those used for toilet bowls and green Scotch-Brite® heavy-duty scrub sponges. Please read the cleaning product's instructions, contents and cautions on any new cleaner before using it. Avoid bleach, products that state on the label that they remove tarnish and rust, and those containing hydrofluoric, hydrochloric and/or phosphoric acids or caustic agents. For stubborn stains and/or mineral deposits, a mild abrasive cleaner can be used. Current examples of mild abrasive cleaners are Bon-Ami, Barkeeper's Friend, Zud or Soft Scrub without bleach. Manufacturers of cleaning agents always have the prerogative of changing their formulation without notice. As a result, Delta Faucet Company does not endorse any specific cleaner.

After every cleaning we recommend applying a coating wax which will help prevent water spotting and mineral build-up. You may use an aerosol furniture polish, a good quality car wax, or floor paste wax for this purpose.

Kohler:
Success with cleaners and procedures is dependent upon such factors as the hardness and temperature of the water, using exact quantities of ingredients, changes in cleaning formulas and the condition of the product being cleaned. Since there are variations within these factors, Kohler cannot guarantee the effectiveness of the formulas mentioned.

Products to consider are Comet Bathroom Cleaner, Fantastik Antibacterial Heavy Duty, and Windex Original

The ideal cleaning technique is to always blot dry any water from metal surfaces. Allowing water to evaporate on metal will form water deposits. It is important to use a dabbing action to dry metal, not an abrasive or rubbing action. Cleaning with a damp sponge and buff drying should keep your product looking beautiful.

- Do not use cleaners containing ammonia, bleach or acid.
- Use a mild detergent (such as dishwashing soap). Do not use abrasive cleaners.
- Rinse and be sure to wipe the entire surface dry.
- The Oil Rubbed Bronze finish should only be cleaned with Windex Original.

Moen:
The LifeShine finish can be cleaned with most household cleaners (including mild abrasives), when used according to the manufacturers' instructions for use. Avoid using any cleaners or pads/sponges that are unsafe for polished metallic surfaces. Most green, fibrous pads or sponges contain microscopic mineral particles that can scratch a faucet's finish, including LifeShine finishes. Cleaner manufacturers may change their formulations at any time; therefore, Moen does not recommend any specific cleanser. Immediately after cleaning your faucet, wash off remaining cleanser with water. To remove water spots, use a soft, damp cloth. Hard water stains can be removed with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water or by mild scrubbing with fine steel wool (0000 grade). We also suggest a periodic application of a quality, non-abrasive wax such as car wax or aerosol furniture wax.

For non-LifeShine components do not use cleaners that contain abrasives, harsh chemicals, alcohol, or other organic solvents. Avoid using any cleansers or pads/sponges that are unsafe for polished metallic surfaces. Most green, fibrous pads/sponges contain microscopic mineral particles that can scratch a faucet's finish. Cleaner manufacturers may change their formulations at any time; therefore, Moen does not recommend any specific cleaner. Immediately after cleaning your faucet, wash off remaining cleaner with water. To remove water spots, use warm water and a soft, damp cloth. Hard water stains can be removed with a 50/50 solution of white vinegar and water, followed by rinsing with water. To preserve the luster of your faucet, occasionally apply a high quality non-abrasive wax, such as car wax.
